A new study concludes that the red needles of a bark beetle killed pine can ignite 3 times faster than green needles. The AP reports here on the new study by U.S. Forest Service ecologist Matt Jolly. These findings clearly indicate the need to continue commercial removal of these downed trees. You can bet environmentals are working now to debunk this study or otherwise find reasons not to allow logging of these dead trees.
