Forest Service Keeps Eye on Timber Industry Health

Posted by nationalforestlawblog on November 17, 2010 at 10:19 PM

ABC News reports on how a strong timber industry is key to stopping the spread of the bark beetle.  However, the article cites that only 20% of the 215,000 acres thare in the most need to be treated to stop the beetle have actually been treated. It's hard to do timber sales when the mills have been decimated by years of lawsuits. But, perhaps this is a hopeful sign. When I was a young'n, marginal mills would open and close depending on the markets. Maybe it could happen again.
